Decreased hepatic clearance w/ cimetidine, high dose allopurinol, propranolol, macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin, clarithromycin), quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin & enoxacin), alcohol, OCs, mexiletine, tacrine, thiabendazole, disulfiram, interferon α & verapamil. May lower serum conc w/ tobacco or marijuana smoking, phenobarb, phenytoin, carbamazepine & rifampicin. Reduced plasma levels w/ drugs containing St. John's wort (
Hypericum perforatum). Ventricular arrhythmias may occur w/ halothane. May lower seizure threshold w/ ketamine. May enhance renal clearance of lithium. Synergism w/ adrenaline & other sympathomimetic amines. Concomitant use w/ methylxanthines, ranitidine, diltiazem, nifedipine, INH, furosemide, flu vaccine & corticosteroids.
